EMT First ResponseEMT First Response

Author: Anthony Egerstaffer

This is a High concept design document by one of the students in our Portfolio class by the name of Anthony Egerstaffer. The basic idea behind the game is that you will enter it, playing the role of one EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician - Basic) and work your way up from there. The genre seems to be a resource management simulation set within the world of medical trauma. You go through each working shift managing emergency situations, keeping your ambulance fully stocked, and most importantly saving lives. There are several different control schemes due to environment. The player will be on foot assisting injured and sick civilians, the player will also have to control the ambulance driving back and forth from the hospital as necessary.

The EMT progresses through the collection of EMT technique points which get spent on individual skills to make them more effective, and a total number of hours worked which translate into extra training classes to advance their level and enable more skills to them. The player can also build their own city and create training scenarios so that this can be used for training simulations for real-life EMTs.

The control scheme is somewhat simplistic in allowing you to do everything. Most is done with the mouse and context sensitive menus (e.g. like the Sims). 85% of the control scheme is used for driving only. The objective is to acheieve the highest rank in the paramedic field by earning certifications and advancement and for training purposes.

Harry Potter GDDHarry Potter: Hogwartz School of Witchcraft & Wizardry

Author: Joel Vanchura

This is a Game Design Document created by a pair of students as a class project serving as the initial layout for a game idea using the Harry Potter theme; they are examples of the steps that are taken into consideration when designing a game from the ground up. The document goes in depth about various aspects of the design, from “hit point” systems to world traversal methods. The information is organized in a way that makes it easy to find and replace any changes made during the testing phase should testers find that certain elements are unworkable or need revision.

This Harry Potter would be realized in 3 dimensions, but does not focus its attention on the main characters of the movie. Instead, players are compelled to create their own students, randomly being assigned a House due to early choices, and to and rise through the ranks for each of 7 years at Hogwartz. There will be plenty of activities to perform in order to gain honorable mentions at the school, but also funny gifts to buy and play jokes on other students and teachers which could potentially open new areas. The game was meant to be open-ended and with the ability to fly, but limitations are necessary to ensure a general flow towards the ending in the game.
